Professional & Affordable Wire EDM Solutions

Established over 20 years ago, we at Microtec EDM specialise in all aspects of wire and spark erosion technology. We have a solid reputation for producing high-quality precision parts at competitive prices for a range of industries. If you’re looking for professional Wire EDM solutions, then you’ve found the answer. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us for a FREE quote today.

What is Wire EDM?

Electrical discharge machining (EDM) is a manufacturing process that uses electrical sparks to cut into the metal, create a desired shape and detach it from the metal sheet. Using a wire as the tool electrode, Wire EDM prevents the material from eroding from the wire itself by continually switching. The process of wire erosion is particularly suited to tough materials such as Inconel and hardened tool steels. It can also be used to cut parts made from tungsten carbide, titanium, aluminium, copper and other more exotic alloys providing that the material is electrically conductive.

How does the Wire EDM process work?

Where the quality of finish is paramount, our Wire EDM machinery utilises several minuscule cuts or ‘skims’ of the part removing microns of material at a time. This process is particularly useful for the manufacture of intricate, complex parts where a high degree of accuracy is required. Many different industries have embraced its versatility and our customer base boasts a variety of highly regarded, blue chip companies in areas as diverse as Defence, Medical & Pharmaceutical, Space and Motorsport. Our State-of-the-Art Machinery

Our GF machinery CUT 1000 machines are a benchmark in microwire erosion. Using wires of 20 μm, surface finishes of Ra 0.05 μm, 11 μm inside radii, 22 μm slits are now achievable. Production of both small and high-volume batches of components means that Wire and Micro EDM technology is of real benefit in the manufacture of connectors, medical components, watchmaking, as well as automotive, aerospace and satellite technologies.

What are the benefits of Wire EDM?

Difficult-to-Machine Materials

The process of Wire EDM is particularly suited to difficult-to-machine, tough, materials such as Inconel and hardened tool steels. The process is accurate and won’t compromise the surface finish of the resulting products.

Quality Finishes

As it is a non-contact manufacturing process, Wire EDM achieves high-quality finishes. This means that the need for post-processing procedures and surface treatments will be greatly reduced.

Quick Turnaround

Our machinery can run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, allowing for very competitive pricing and quick turnaround times. Whether you require small or high-volume batch work, one-off products or prototypes, we can help with it all.

Accuracy

Our state-of-the-art machinery and automated software allow us to produce intricate, complex parts where a high degree of accuracy is required. Furthermore, our results are predictable and repeatable during every production run.

Tight Tolerances

We work with a range of industries where tight tolerances are essential. Our machinery can accommodate intricate, complex parts, down to 20 microns in size with tolerances of less than 3 microns.
